FUNFERAL 2019

The 2019 Funferalsubtitled "13 Ways of Looking at Finnegans Wake" was held at O'Malley's Hotel in Civic, Canberra, on the 17th June, 2019, and combined readings of the Wake, musical renditions of the song from which it takes its title, a tour of the work's 10 one-hundred letter "thunderwords," including "Bababadalgharaghtakamminarronnkonnbronntonnerronntuonnthunntrovarrhounawnskawntoohoohoordenenthurnuk," and performances on a replica bronze age Irish horn, which was in fact played in the circular breathing manner of a digeridoo. The Ambassador of Ireland, His Excellency Mr Breandán Ó Caollaí, attended the event, and His Excellency’s wife, Ms Carmel Callan, performed one of Nuala Ni Dhomhnaill Gaelic language poems for the occasion. Aspects of the event were filmed and aired by SBS World News.
